How to Save a Life: Day 3 of Introduction to Birdwatching and Community Tour Guides Training

Day 3 of the Introduction to Birdwatching and Community Tour Guides Training put the spotlight on a critical life-saving skill set: Basic Life Support and First Aid.
Guided by our DOT-accredited trainers, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗘𝗱𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗿, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝘀. 𝗠𝘆𝗿𝗻𝗮 𝗔𝗺𝗼𝗻-𝗧𝘂𝗯𝗲𝗼, participants were introduced to concepts and actual application of basic first aid during emergencies that may occur in the field or in everyday situations.
The training began with lectures on the core principles of first aid and basic life support, including scene assessment, personal safety, and emergency action steps. This was followed by detailed demonstrations of CPR, choking management, wound care, bleeding control, safe patient handling, and the use of basic emergency equipment.
One of the main highlights of the day was when participants actively performed practical applications and simulations, putting their skills to the test in realistic scenarios such as assisting an unconscious person and responding to outdoor or wildlife-related injuries. The session concluded with both practical and written examinations, allowing participants to demonstrate their competence and readiness to respond in real-life emergencies.
By the end of the session, trainees were reminded that being a tour guide is not only about interpreting nature and telling stories. More importantly, it is stepping up in times of crisis and safeguarding the well-being of guests and community members.
Stay tuned for more highlights from our training!
